Beautification Commission
Thursday, April 7, 2011   

Present:         Pat Byrnes; Elaine Dube; Dolores Kehoe; Mary Mourey;
        Tony Russo; Betty Russell; Pat Sirois.

Also Present:   Tim Bockus, Acting Director/Public Works  
                
Absent:         Marylee Hickey (excused).       
        Roger Moss, Director/Park and Recreation (excused)

Call to order:
Pat Byrnes called the meeting of the Beautification Commission to order at 7:21 p.m.

Acceptance of minutes of MARCH 3, 2011      
Dolores Kehoe made a motion to accept the minutes of the March 3, 2011 meeting. Seconded by Mary Mourey.  Approved.

Opportunity for citizens to speak:              None.   

Financial Report:                                       
Mary Mourey reported that the General Fund has $6328.71.  Remembrance Fund balance is $520.96.

Communications:                         
Chair Sirois received the following communication:

Chair's Report: 
Chair Siriois welcomed new Commissioner, Elaine Dube.

Chair Sirois reminded Commissioners to RSVP to Danielle Singleton at O’Brien School in reference to Arbor Day.

Chair Sirois spoke with Ron Pugliese, President of the Chamber of Commerce in reference to the Holiday Fest program and he would like to work with the Commission as well as businesses to promote the event.

Tim Bockus is awaiting a reply from the State Forester. The report was distributed and discussed by Tim Bockus.
        
Old Business:                                                                           
  •         Arbor Day
Chair Sirois asked the Commissioners who would be in attendance on April 29.   They are: Pat Byrnes; Dolores Kehoe; Pat Sirois; Betty Russell; Tony Russo; Mary Mourey and Tim Bockus.  

Tony Russo has met with Dr. Leslie Thompson-Morgan, Principal of O’Brien School in reference to the placement of the dogwood tree as well as the Mountain Laurel bush.

New Business:
  •       Spring Plantings
Chair Sirois spoke with Mayor Leclerc and she has recommended having a color theme this year in the barrels.  Tony Russo has met with Botticello’s and they are starting the plantings for the barrels which will be purple, pink and white.  Tony Russo will also use potato plants as well as spikes in the barrels.

Other Business:
Tim Bockus and Tony Russo announced a new Operation Clean Sweep taking place on Main Street.  Sidewalks will be swept by Public Works and Public Works will have a greater presence on Main Street this year.  There will be a weekly maintenance schedule.

Tim Bockus further reported there is a pilot program beginning for sidewalk lighting on Main Street.  Grant money will be used for new trash receptacles, bike racks as well as park benches for Main Street.

Pat Sirois informed Tim that she is available during the day for meetings with merchants.
        
Concerns of the Commission:
The following concerns were discussed:
                Street sign down on the corner of Colby/Andover.
                Town Service Sign on Route 5 needs repair

Dolores Kehoe stated for the record that the Public Work employees did a great job during the very difficult winter to keep the roads clear and safe.

Payment of Bills:
                Theresa Godreau (clerk)                                         $ 75.00
        
Mary Mourey made a motion to pay the clerk and to approve the bills as submitted.  Seconded by Pat Byrnes.  Approved.
        
Adjournment:
There being no further business,  Mary Mourey made a motion to adjourn the meeting at
8: 12 p.m. Seconded by Dolores Kehoe. Approved.

The next meeting of the Commission will be May 5, 2011 in Building Department Conference Room at 7:15 p.m.
